What is hammer follow?
Hammer follow occurs when the hammer fails to stay engaged with the sear during cycling and follows the bolt/bolt carrier forward. This can result in a failure to fire, light strike, or in rare cases, an unintended discharge.
Common Causes
- Improper trigger installation or alignment
- Snug-down screws not tightened correctly
- Debris or contamination affecting sear engagement
- Incorrect hammer/trigger combination for the platform
Recommended Steps
- Verify the safety selector is properly installed and compatible
- Ensure the safety is set to SAFE before tightening both snug-down screws.
- Perform a full flush of the trigger using a dissipating solvent to remove any debris or contaminants
- Confirm all pins are properly seated and centered
Important Safety Notice
- If you experience hammer follow or any unintended discharge:
- Stop using the firearm immediately
- Do not continue live-fire testing
- Contact TriggerTech support for further assistance
